The 50cent story

How much a 50 cent worth nowadays?

Can you buy a nasik lemak? Yes, maybe if you live in Jasin and some other sub-urban spots.

Teh tarik? Kopi O? No, I don’t think so. A kopi at kopitiam can easily reach the price of RM3.

So, what can you actually get with this 50 cent? Let me tell you a story.

Once upon a time, there was a guy. He’s broke and didn’t even finished his degree. He went from jobs to jobs just to feed his tummy.

Well, he did found a job that pays him around thousand ringgit per month. Living in KL and earning a thousand is like a suicide you know. And to make things worst, the company he worked for are going down a.k.a closed.

So, as a job hopper, he went to look for another job. Soon, he found himself in an interview.

Mr Interviewer: So, I saw you only have a diploma. What happened to your degree?

Broke guy: Well, you know sir, I have 8 siblings. My dad worked as a policeman. So, I have to help him to feed them. Since I’m the eldest, I believe I deserved to share the responsibilities.

Mr Interviewer: Okay, that’s very thoughtful of you. and you know what, it’s your lucky day. I’m going to offer you this job with the salary of RM3500. Agree?

Broke guy: We all due respect sir, I believe I should earn more.

Mr Interviewer: And why is that? You have only a 1 and half year experience in this field.

Broke guy: I’m not trying to be cocky here. But, having been exposed with on site experience with various situations and dealing with number of engineers and technicians, I believe I’m ready to take my job to the next level. I’m no substitute now because I want to be the leader. And the best part, I believe i earn it.

Mr Interviewer: Emm, okay. Let me talk to my bos first. Let me see what he got to say.

(And so, Mr Interviewer called his bos.)

Mr Interviewer: I’m sorry son. The answer is still the same. It’s RM3500 or no. It’s your call now.

Broke guy: I see no point of arguing here. Yeah, I agree. Thank you sir.

Before the broke left the room, he asked for the interviewer’s bos number, and he got it, well its the office number of course.

In his way home, the feeling of dissatisfaction were all over him. he felt he deserved to get more. So he stop at the first public phone he saw. he quickly drilled into is pocket and looked for the bos’s phone number.

“Okay, I have nothing to lose. It’s only a call. It’s a yes or no” he said to himself. Again, he drilled down into his pocket to look for any coins. He drilled hard in the left side and found none. And in the right side of his pocket, he found a 50 cent.

“It’s my last penny of the day.” he sobbed. “Well at least I’m trying”.

He dialed the given number and soon after he heard a voice. “Hello. Who’s this?”

The broke guy introduced himself and told the bos that he was interviewed by the bos’s staff a few hours ago. And he was the one who asked for more salary. He also repeated the same facts as in the interview on why he deserved to get more.

The Bos: So young man, how much do you want?

Broke guy: I see RM4500 as the perfect rate.

The Bos: It’s RM4000 then. Take it or leave it.

Broke guy: Emm ok. I think you’re being so reasonable. I’ll take it. Thank you sir for your generosity.

The Bos. Your welcome.

Can you see the moral of the story? Can you spot the positive side of the broke guy? It’s only take him 50 cent and in return he got the extra RM500. How many of us are willing to fight for what we believe? If we believe we can become success with more reading, then how much we spent our time and money to get the materials?

The question is, how strong is your determination to success?
